It is safe to say that I am an extravert. I
have friends I've known longer than my brain has recorded memories of them and I have kept assembling friends ever since. I want to know people around me. Because, it helps with safety, because, people are interesting, because, it makes my world more enjoyable, because, otherwise, it makes a block party very uncomfortable.
I keep people around me who help and challenge me to be a better person. We try to make the world a better place. All the members of my village are imperfect, as am I. As my village grows then so does each villager's. Some people call this family. I believe in a family we create. Blood does not have to be shared. Neither does generation, language, religious beliefs, political views, nationality, location or love of Hallmark movies.
I am not always good at keeping in touch. I have not always been a good friend. I am not always good at telling people how I feel, figuring out how I feel or apologizing when needed. I strive for progress, not perfection. I strive to foster a sense of community, love and safety. We do not live alone on this earth and cannot survive alone here either. No matter how badly I want to stay on the couch in my jammies.
